Understanding Hoarding & Squalor (for Aged Care Workers)
- This event has passed.
Hoarding is a complex mental health condition that often intersects with trauma, ageing, and social isolation. Understanding it through a clinical and trauma informed lens is essential for delivering best practice, person-centred care that fosters dignity, autonomy, and long-term wellbeing.
In this workshop, participants will:
• Gain insight into hoarding disorder as a recognised mental health condition
• Explore the psychological, social, and environmental factors contributing to hoarding behaviours in older adults
• Learn trauma-informed strategies that support safety, trust, and collaborative change
• Acquire practical tools to engage respectfully and effectively with people living in hoarded environments
Outcome: Participants will leave equipped with compassionate, evidence-informed strategies to support older adults living with hoarding, and contribute to meaningful, sustainable change that respects individual rights and lived experience.
Facilitator: Inside Out Recovery.
