NSW Treaty Commission Conversation: Inverell
The NSW Treaty Commission is heading to Wyong, Newcastle and Umina, and Aboriginal communities across NSW are invited to be part of the conversation. Bring the mob, share your thoughts, and grab a feed.
A conversation led by Aboriginal people, for Aboriginal people
Aboriginal communities across NSW are being invited to take part in a statewide conversation about whether a Treaty or another kind of formal agreement is wanted, and what that could look like.
This is not the start of a Treaty. It is the start of a conversation — one that belongs to Aboriginal people across NSW.
What This Conversation Is About
The NSW Treaty Commission has been asked to listen to Aboriginal people across the State and report back on two key questions:
- Do Aboriginal people want a Treaty or another kind of formal agreement in NSW?
- If so, what should that agreement include?
There is no decision already made. The answers to these questions will come directly from Aboriginal communities.
What’s Happening Now
Over 12 months, the NSW Treaty Commission is travelling across NSW to listen to Aboriginal people — in cities, towns, regional centres and remote communities.
This process is independent of government and shaped by what communities choose to share.

Submissions from non-Aboriginal individuals or organisations are not currently a part of this consultation process. For now, the focus is on ensuring Aboriginal voices are heard clearly and without interference.
