Language, Rights and Access: Innovation and Best Practice in Intercultural Communication, An Interdisciplinary Approach
The New Aged Care Act, a rights-based framework commencing 1 November 2025, will transform aged care by embedding the rights of older people – independence, autonomy, privacy, and safe, quality care at its core. Join us at the MAC Symposium as we unpack the policy mandates and obligations shaping equitable and culturally inclusive service delivery, explore communication and interpreter access challenges, and highlight best practice strategies such as bilingual/bicultural workers and culturally appropriate assessment.
This is your opportunity to gain expert insights into the legal and social impacts for your organisation and engage in dialogue on building a fair, sustainable and quality aged care system.
Our exciting line-up of speakers includes:
- Dr. Erika Gonzalez Garcia (Associate Professor in Translating and Interpreting and Senior Fellow at Advance HE)
- Melanie Metz (Deputy Commissioner, Sector Capability and Regulatory Strategy, Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission)
- Cecilia Chiolero (PICAC Manager, COTA NT),
- Stephen Donald (Care Finder, Country & Outback Health)
- Consumer advocates, aged care assessors, and more to be announced.
