In recent years there has been an increasing emphasis on the rights of older people accessing aged care. This has gained pace since 1 July 2019 when a new sector-wide Charter of Aged Care Rights and new Aged Care Quality Standards came into effect. All aged care services and facilities offering government subsidised aged care and support are required to demonstrate that they are meeting the requirements of the standards and upholding the rights of consumers.
Getting it Right – Consumer Rights in Aged Care is a series of three, one-hour, on-line sessions that explore in depth the link between each consumer right, the Aged Care Quality Standards and the accepted recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. What does this mean for agency policies and procedures? What evidence clearly demonstrates a focus on consumer rights? Each participating agency will receive a Rights Audit Tool and will be encouraged to complete it before a follow-up 90 minute on-line session a month after the on-line sessions.
