DESCRIPTION:Livestream Parliamentary Friends: When Age Is the Barrier: Younger Australians with a Terminal Illness Caught Between Systems \nPalliative Care Australia invites you\, together with co-convenors Senator Kerrynne Liddle and Senator Raff Ciccone\, to attend When age is the barrier: Younger Australians with a terminal illness caught between systems.  \nAge is a major factor in what support you can access from the health\, aged care and disability systems. There is a vast difference in the support available for someone who is under 65 compared with those 65 and older. \nSadly\, people diagnosed with a life-limiting illness under 65 face distinct and often overlooked challenges. \nFor working-age Australians\, this can mean navigating employment\, loss of income\, and family responsibilities alongside a palliative diagnosis. Children\, adolescents and young adults experience distinct challenges because support systems may not be designed with them in mind. \nPalliative Care Australia is especially concerned about a cohort of Australians under 65 who have significant disability due to an advanced life-limiting condition\, but who are unable to access the functional support that would allow them to remain at home safely. DESCRIPTION:2026 marks 210 years since the Appin Massacre of 17 April 1816\, a significant and painful moment in the history of the Dharawal people. \nAll are invited to attend in a spirit of remembrance\, respect\, and solidarity with the Dharawal people who lost their lives\, and with the descendants of those who survived. \nThis gathering is an opportunity to pause\, to acknowledge the truth of what took place\, and to continue the shared work of healing and reconciliation. \nThis family friendly event begins with a free BBQ lunch\, followed by walking together from the picnic area to the dam wall\, where the memorial ceremony takes place. The walk is a 10-15 minute walk along a sealed road\, which will be closed to traffic. For those who need assistance\, transport will be available. The memorial includes a smoking ceremony\, cultural dance by local Aboriginal groups and didgeridoo performance. \nAll are welcome to attend and take part respectfully in this important day. \nHosted by the Winga Myamly Reconciliation Group and the Aboriginal communities of Macarthur\, the day is centred on three enduring themes: Remembering.
