SUMMARY:NSW Treaty Commission Conversation: Newcastle
DESCRIPTION:The NSW Treaty Commission is heading to Wyong\, Newcastle and Umina\, and Aboriginal communities across NSW are invited to be part of the conversation. Bring the mob\, share your thoughts\, and grab a feed. \nA conversation led by Aboriginal people\, for Aboriginal people\nAboriginal communities across NSW are being invited to take part in a statewide conversation about whether a Treaty or another kind of formal agreement is wanted\, and what that could look like. \nThis is not the start of a Treaty. It is the start of a conversation — one that belongs to Aboriginal people across NSW. \nWhat This Conversation Is About\nThe NSW Treaty Commission has been asked to listen to Aboriginal people across the State and report back on two key questions: \n\nDo Aboriginal people want a Treaty or another kind of formal agreement in NSW?\nIf so\, what should that agreement include?\n\nThere is no decision already made. The answers to these questions will come directly from Aboriginal communities. \nWhat’s Happening Now\nOver 12 months\, the NSW Treaty Commission is travelling across NSW to listen to Aboriginal people — in cities\, towns\, regional centres and remote communities. \nThis process is independent of government and shaped by what communities choose to share. \nNewcastle\n Yamuloong Centre | 71 Prospect Rd\, Garden Suburb NSW 2289\n Tuesday\, 10th March 2026 11:30am – 1:30pm\nEvent details here \nWyong\n📍 Where: Wyong Golf Club | 319 Pacific Hwy\, Wyong\n📅 When: Wednesday\, 11th March 2026\n⏰ Time: 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM\nEvent details here \nUmina\nWhen: Thursday\, 12th March 2026\nCheck for further details on social media \nWhat This Means for You and Your Family\nTaking part is your chance to: \n\nSay whether you want a Treaty or another form of agreement making\, or not\nShare what justice\, fairness and the future mean for your community\nHelp decide the right path for your mob\, region or nation\n\nThis is about shaping a future that reflects your experiences\, your culture and your hopes. \nIf you cannot attend a session\, you can upload your thoughts online: \n\nWritten story or statement\nVoice recording\nArtwork\nVideo message\nSurvey\nRegister your interest for a small targeted session\nHost your own Treaty Conversation\n\nSubmissions from non-Aboriginal individuals or organisations are not currently a part of this consultation process. SUMMARY:Professional practice and tackling ageism: Building capacity and resilience to improve wellbeing (online workshop)
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we explore the insidious impacts of our ageist society on the older person. Learn how we as in home care providers can improve our service delivery by adopting a strengths-based approach and recognising the older person is the expert in their own health and wellness. Ageism in aged care can have significant impacts on the health and wellbeing of older people. Ageism can often go unnoticed because it is often subtle and normalised\, so combatting ageism begins with reflecting on our own unconscious bias when working with older people. \nInvitation open to: CHSP providers\, case managers\, team leaders\, and support workers. \nThis is a collaborative event between the Sector Support and Development Teams of Your Side and Ku-ring-gai Council. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Community of Practice: National Palliative Care Standards (Standard 2: Developing the Care Plan)
DESCRIPTION:Join Palliative Care Australia for their monthly deep dive into the National Palliative Care Standards\, where we explore one standard in detail and discuss ways to embed it into everyday practice. \n\nThis month\, we focus on Standard Two: Developing the (comprehensive) care plan\, which emphasises care that is responsive to the needs of the person\, informed by evidence and aligned with the individual’s values\, goals and preferences as documented in their care plan.\nOur expert panel\, Lara McIntyre\, Sandra Postlewaight and Catherine Joyce will reflect on their professional experiences\, share practical insights and discuss how Standard Two can be integrated into day-to-day practice.\n\nThe National Palliative Care Standards for Specialist Services (Edition 5.1\, 2024) set a vision for compassionate\, high-quality palliative care. Complementing these\, the National Palliative Care Standards for All Health Professionals and Aged Care Services (2022) acknowledge that palliative care occurs across diverse settings. The Palliative Care Self-Assessment (PaCSA) supports services in self-assessing against both sets of standards and developing action plans for continuous quality improvement. \nMake the most of this session by downloading the National Palliative Care Standards and PaCSA before the webinar  https://palliativecare.org.au/national-palliative-care-standards/ \nWhether you work in a specialist or non-specialist palliative care service\, the CoP and monthly webinars have been designed to support you in providing high-quality palliative care. \nHaven’t joined the CoP yet?  Complete the Expression of Interest Form \nRegister for the 19 March session

SUMMARY:Strengthened Quality Standards: Home care (online workshop)
DESCRIPTION:The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission is running free online workshops on the Strengthened Quality Standards. These sessions are designed for Home Care service providers. \nThe workshops provide an overview of the structure and requirements of the strengthened Quality Standards\, and how they can be applied in your service setting. \nThe session uses a detailed case study to explore the application of the Standards and key considerations for providers. While specific Outcomes and Actions are considered as part of the case study\, we will not be discussing the application of the Standards to individual service settings. The session does not cover all the Outcomes and Actions of the Standards\, but draws on key elements relevant to the case study as an example of how providers might consider their obligations. \nThe session provides opportunities to discuss approaches and ideas with other participants. \nVarious dates to choose from: \n\nTuesday 24 March 2026\, 2:00pm to 3:30pm (AEDT)\n\nRegistration here . \nLogin to your ALIS account (Aged Care Learning Information Solution) and click Live Learning Sessions. \nOverview of Commission’s Live Learning Sessions here

SUMMARY:Palliative Care: Younger Australians with a Terminal Illness Caught Between Systems
DESCRIPTION:Livestream Parliamentary Friends: When Age Is the Barrier: Younger Australians with a Terminal Illness Caught Between Systems \nPalliative Care Australia invites you\, together with co-convenors Senator Kerrynne Liddle and Senator Raff Ciccone\, to attend When age is the barrier: Younger Australians with a terminal illness caught between systems.  \nAge is a major factor in what support you can access from the health\, aged care and disability systems. There is a vast difference in the support available for someone who is under 65 compared with those 65 and older. \nSadly\, people diagnosed with a life-limiting illness under 65 face distinct and often overlooked challenges. \nFor working-age Australians\, this can mean navigating employment\, loss of income\, and family responsibilities alongside a palliative diagnosis. Children\, adolescents and young adults experience distinct challenges because support systems may not be designed with them in mind. \nPalliative Care Australia is especially concerned about a cohort of Australians under 65 who have significant disability due to an advanced life-limiting condition\, but who are unable to access the functional support that would allow them to remain at home safely. Home-based services such as personal care\, domestic assistance and carer respite are essential to their dignity and quality of life. \nEach year\, an estimated 5\,000 Australians with advanced life-limiting illness go without the essential supports that would enable them to remain safely at home. \nWithout access to appropriate care at home\, their only alternatives are extended hospital admissions\, or inappropriate early entry to residential care – causing distress to people and families\, and avoidable costs to government. \nAt this event you hear about the human impact of these challenges\, the reasons behind the current situation\, and what can do to meet this pressing gap in services. \n  \nPanel speakers include: \n\nPeter Allcroft – Facilitator\, Palliative Care Australia Board Chair\n\n\nFiona Hassman – Lived Experience and Manager\, Piece of Mind Foundation\n\n\nJamieson Lowe – VIC/TAS co-convener\, Palliative Care Social Work Australia\n\n\nOlivia Nassaris – CEO\, Parkinsons Australia\n\n\nClare Sullivan – CEO\, MND Australia\n\nRegister here
